Blue Ribbon Lessons was created to share with librarians, teachers, and students lessons that have been used successfully for instruction in a library classroom. Since it's conception, lessons that I have not used personally with my students but feel are important and can be used by other educators have been added to the web site. BRL is (and probably always will be) a work in progress since I am “the staff” in a very busy middle school library media center serving approximately 600 students and over 50 staff members.
The goal of Blue Ribbon Lessons is to provide a variety of strategies for teaching and learning. Many of these lessons were created for teachers to use in the classroom and for students to learn and work independently. Okay, I’ll be honest, many of the lessons were also created so that I wouldn’t have to lecture 5-7 class periods during the day covering the same material. I don’t know how middle and high school teachers do that!!! As librarians know, it doesn’t end there because that was just one teacher’s students and we have more teachers that want that same lesson for their 5+ classes.
Please visit Blue Ribbon Lessons often as I will be adding more instructional material as I revamp some of my outdated lessons and create new. I welcome thoughts and ideas on improvement of the lessons. I, like this web site, am a work in progress.
